mind-body
The term Holistic is referred to the healing approach that takes several parts of the whole person into consideration when healing the individual. Our work together will not only focus on how the mind thinks, but how the body feels, and how both work together to protect and heal the spirit, creating a partnership within the whole person, thereby maximizing healing. This means that throughout the therapeutic relationship, we may work together on many different aspects of your overall health, such as mental and emotional health, physical health, fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, and a spiritual practice if one is a part of your life.
Culturally, we live in our headspace, with the idea that we are all individual brains getting around by means of a physical body. Sometimes the brain acts up and sometimes the body acts up, but they are unrelated and should be treated separately. We are just now learning the limitations of this idea and that treating only symptoms keeps us from truly healing. Treating the mind, body, and spirit as separate parts of a being disconnects us from ourselves and humanity as a whole.
I believe that the mind, body, and spirit are all connected and are intended to work together to keep the whole person safe, content, and healthy. On our journey through life, events and stressors occur that may disrupt this balance and disconnect one part of the system from the other. Have you ever felt like your body is "working against" or "angry" with you? This is a common example of the disconnect we can often feel when the mind-body system is off balance. In the same way that the body will launch into action to heal a cut or burn, it also strives to heal the wounds of the mind. Some wounds just need a little more help than others. I work together with my clients to more deeply discover where those wounds are, what may have caused them in the first place, and re-process them so that they can be re-integrated with the mind-body system.
